Hon. Rahman emphasized that in today’s interconnected world, cooperation and diplomacy is crucial in maintaining peace, stability and prosperity in the ASEAN region. The ASEAN has long upheld peaceful dialogue and non-interference as foundation for regional harmony, reflecting such in several agreements like the Bangkok Declaration and the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC), the latter being instrumental in establishing a framework for peaceful coexistence and conflict resolution.

ASEAN’s strategic location and economic influence have made the region a hub for global trade, security and diplomacy. However, she emphasized that this role comes with responsibility, and as ASEAN navigates an increasingly complex global landscape, the question is how it can remain a pillar of stability amidst uncertainties brought about by geopolitical rivalries, territorial disputes, cyber risks, climate change, and transnational crimes.

Hon. Rahman stressed the importance of strengthening trust and cooperation within ASEAN to ensure effective navigation of global challenges without being shaped by the competing interests of major powers. By fostering greater parliamentary diplomacy and collaboration, ASEAN can address evolving challenges more cohesively and responsively. This includes reaffirming the collective commitment to a region built on cooperation, inclusivity, and lasting peace.
