27th Parliamentary-Intelligence Security Forum – Opening remarks
Congressman Robert Pittenger opened the session by thanking participants for joining and encouraging everyone to take their seats promptly as the program would be full and run strictly on time. He noted that the forum would deliver an intense “machine gun” flow of information, reflecting the seriousness of the briefing and the caliber of experts assembled. Out of respect for the speakers and attendees, he asked that side conversations be held outside the room, as even quiet discussions could be disruptive.
He expressed gratitude to the representatives from 73 countries who traveled to Washington, commending their commitment to international dialogue. He gave special thanks to the expert presenters who participated at their own expense, emphasizing that no one is paid to attend because they believe deeply in the importance of these discussions. Pittenger underscored the critical role of parliamentarians, who write laws and prioritize government funding, stressing that legislative engagement is essential to addressing global challenges.
He explained that these dialogues are designed specifically to foster collaboration among lawmakers, noting that while official delegations often meet with presidents and ministers, stronger engagement among parliamentarians is vital. He also outlined upcoming forums, including meetings in Manila in February, Madrid in May, Salzburg in August, and Warsaw later in the year, with further plans already underway for 2026. He concluded by thanking attendees for their participation and introducing a distinguished guest known for defending liberty in his own country.
